After
graduating with a
Master of Fine Arts
degree from the
University of
Washington, Jay
McIlwaine began
teaching art. He
spent the next 33
years as an art
teacher on the high
school and college
levels, teaching
thousands of
students to create
drawings, paintings,
sculptures, pottery,
and photographs.
Since retiring in
2005, he has devoted
his energy to nature
photography,
watercolor
creations, and
bronze sculptures.
He
travels extensively in the
western states, from the
high mountains to deserts,
canyons, and ocean shores.
Whether it is mountain
peaks, flowers, rocks, or
streams, he sees the
beauty of the natural
world and captures it in
his own unique style. He
is now offering some of
his work in the form of
greeting cards from
original photographs or
watercolors.
When
Jay is not on the road or
the trail, he is working
in his studio or operating
his own lost wax
bronze-casting foundry in
Conifer, Colorado, where
he lives with his wife,
Jan.
